What can be the reason that so many people are unaware of their disease. There are two conditions pre-diabetes and diabetes mellitus type 2 which are characterized by the absence of the symptoms.
There are some warning signs of diabetes which everybody should know they are extreme hunger,frequent thirst,frequent urination,weight loss,tiredness and blurred vision. In addition to this patient can have increased frequency of cuts and bruises which are not healed easily. The onset of symptoms tend to be gradual in type 2 as compared to type 1. The gradual onset of the type 2 diabetes is reason for its late diagnosis and treatment.
If a person is having diabetes risk factors for example obesity or a family member suffering from the disease he should be aware of above signs and symptoms. If any of the above sign or symptom appear it is a good reason to visit your health care professional. Untreated or late diagnosed disease is having lot of complications like cardiovascular diseases, nerve damage, eye diseases, kidney diseases, hypoglycemia-low level of sugar in the blood, gastrointestinal problems and sexual problems like erectile dysfunction. If a person is suffering from any type of diabetes he should take special care of his diet. Diet should contain lot of fruit and vegetables as these two things contain lot of vitamins and fibre. Proper care should be taken of feet,teeth and gums as patients are more prone to infections.
